Interview with Alicia Bay Laurel in Buffalo Zine

I received in the post today (November 5, 2024) a massive fashion magazine from London called “Buffalo Zine,” in which I was one of a number of creatives interviewed on the topic of success by the features editor, Amelia Abraham, a few months ago. Above are the two pages of the interview as photographed by my iPhone, and, below, the masthead page and magazine cover.






“I love this interview, as you spell out so clearly the lifestyle lessons I learned (via osmosis, really) from living at [neighboring rural hippie commune] Star Mountain, and your soaking up your beautiful book. I feel so lucky to have ended up there, and that I was entirely open to the way of life I experienced there. I have continued to live outside of the mainstream culture by choice, and could not imagine living differently. Thanks for sharing this.”

I am happy to say that I’ve now watched Agnes Varda’s joyously surrealist film about her uncle, my artist mentor, Jean “Yanco” Varda, many times. I also linked it to the page in my online store for the blue on blue t-shirt I designed with the Living on the Earth houseboat pages, which arose from my years living at Gate Five, Sausalito. I made a black and white version of the t-shirt as well, with the movie link there too.
