I spoke yesterday with Tom McNalley, a jazz guitarist who has deep, long-standing roots in the Haitian community in Los Angeles and is involved in rescue operations there. I asked him which of the charitable organizations most deserves our financial support during recovery from the earthquake. Without hesitation, he recommended Partners in Health. They have offered free health care in Haiti since the 1980s. They have 11 hospitals that are still standing, because they are outside of Port-Au-Prince. They employ an all-Haitian hospital staff.
