Are You Scared Yet?

Update, July 3, 2007: Grist (the online environmental newsletter to which I’ve subscribed for some years) just published THEIR list of favorite green movies.  The list, runner-ups, and following blog make a good read.

February 13, 2007: Now that I’m settled in LA for a while, I’m turning my attention to creating environmental messages in the media, clearly not a new idea, but, given the apathy of the majority of US citizens, one that merits repetition.

Looking around the ‘net tonight, I came upon an ad for a new film, The Great Warming, which chillingly (!) states, “Just as other generations spoke of a Great Plague and a Great Depression, our children will be compelled to endure The Great Warming – and find a way to conquer its consequences.”

E Magazine, (“e” for environment, earth and ecology) published a list of “the best and worst ‘green movies’ ” that goes back a few decades.

Here’s a list of the 2006 Film and TV Awards from the Environmental Media Association. Of course, An Inconvenient Truth won as Best Documentary.

Here’s another list published in May 2005 on Open Democracy (“Forget ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ – there are far better films on climate change. Angela Saini sees them and survives.”)
